BELPHEGOR : Pestapokalpse VI : Nuclear
Blast Records
With this Austrian bands already more than competent legacy it
may be a little unfair to say that it has taken near on 14 years
to create such a stunning album as the band have finally unleashed
upon a frankly unsuspecting world. Sure the bands previous efforts
have been of a high standard and given them the credibility to continue
for so long, but it isn't until now that the potential that was
always threatened has come of age.
Without a shadow of any doubt ' Pestapokalypse VI', will propel
this band into the higher reaches of the Black Metal league tables
as it is quite simply littered from beginning to end with blasphemous
tales of depravation that are set to a brutal, yet melodic some
would say almost symphonic orchestration of guitars, bas and relentless
drumming. Yes for sure the old Morbid Angel influence is still on
show for all to see, but its taken a turn and been added a twist
that shows that this is a band who know what they want out of their
music.
Frighteningly some of the tracks are almost catchy in an uncommercial
way with the like of 'Angel Of Retribution' coming across with an
almost doom laden feel to it, although without slowing down to such
a pace that it becomes monotonous. Following on we have the symphonic
Black Metal holocaust that is 'Chants For The Devil 1533', which
in itself is a sure fire classic track. The same title can be given
to the murderous tones of ' Bluhtsturm Erotika', that sounds like
it should have been on Slayers 'Reign In Blood' epic.
In reviewing an album as good as this it is sometimes difficult
to sound sincere with all the superlatives that continually spring
to mind, but the truth of the matter is that this is one of those
albums that you really cannot stop raving about, playing at volume
and simply basking in its divine Black/Death glory.
