BELPHEGOR
‘Goatreich-Fleshcult’
There are not certainties in life but thing for sure is that Belphegor
will come up with an album dripping in accelerated savagery. Having
raised their game with 2003’s ‘Lucifer Incestus’,
the Austrian quartet have retained the Mastersound/Alexander Krull
combination for album number five. If ‘…Incestus’
was the peak of the band at full pelt, then ‘Goatreich-Fleshcult’
is another step up. Maintaining the poise and delivery that Belphegor
have made their name with, 2005 finds a more polished and accomplished
band adding increased depth and thought to their aggressive sound
and taking that development further. The most varied of their albums
to date, ‘Sepulture Of Hypocrisy’ slows down the pace
massively and proves that they’re capable of straying from their
template without losing their punch. One of the few bands capable
of maintaining interest while releasing a catalogue of material similar
in sound and scope, Belphegor have reached that stage of maturity
where they can comfortably spread their wings with judicious results.
